The Goldings cup final took place at the County Ground, Letchworth on Thursday 29th September at 7.30pm having been postponed
earlier in the year due to heavy rain.
This time we were blessed with a dry and pleasant evening with conditions perfect for the occasion and a well prepared playing surface.
This years teams were Freeman College (Buntingford) 2 v Roundwood Park School 1 (Harpenden)
The game kicked off with Roundwood Park looking the more physical and stronger side but Freeman College were the more skilful and
footballing side. Freeman would have put the game to bed well before half time had it not been for a string of excellent saves from the
Roundwood keeper, but it was Roundwood who took the lead midway through the first half against the run of play. The second half began
in much the same way, but just a few minutes after the restart, Freeman were level with a well taken goal. With some excellent saves
from both keepers, there were no further goals in normal time. 10 minutes each way of extra time had the crowd on their feet and it was
Freeman who got the winner just a few minutes into the first period of extra time. Both sets of players were a credit to their schools and
Well done Freeman on a well deserved victory.
Goldings were represented by Brian & Ellen Perrier and myself and would like to thank The Hertfordshire Schools FA who made us
most welcome and again treated us well, providing us with food and drink.
