Eric Burgar remembers in a letter

I received a very interesting letter from Eric Burgar and thought it would be interesting to share it.

Hello Dave, thank you so much for the “Amazing Calendar, with the anecdotes to match to which I remember fondly.
The tricks (if this is the right word) to bring in extra income, odd jobs similar to “Bob a Job”, Choir money, even thou
I didn’t have a ear for music! Room boy for Jack…..2/6p per week. The amazing thing was “What kept on a tight rein”

no wimps or shrinking violets! Expressing good natured comments on our “Masters” all male Staff…no nicknames for
the Female Staff! Was this an early version of sexism? I wonder if we had the true respect for the water tower, which

The river flow was live with fish of all sorts. Now its classed as hazardous to enter to swim in or kids to play in.
This reminds me of being chosen by the water bailiff, I can’t remember her name a local woman who had a
membership near the new Hertford East Station.

Sorry about the scribble, but like the poet Laurate….I write more when I’m moved!

I will give you a ring when I can find my phone in the morning.
I enjoyed the commemorative calendar.

All my best wishes Eric.
