AONBs are designated to conserve and enhance the natural beauty
of the countryside and coastline of Wales and England. As well as
fulfilling the social and economic needs of local communities, AONBs
help to protect the landscape, geology, flora and fauna.
The Isle of Anglesey AONB was designated in 1966 and is the largest
in Wales, covering an area of 21,500 hectares; approximately a third
of the island. The Isle of Anglesey AONB is administered by the
County Councils Countryside Service.
