Limestone woodland with a wide range of wildflowers and old quarries adjacent to Menai Strait.
Nant Porth is a coastal limestone woodland with areas of grassland and old quarries. The reserve lies alongside the Menai Straits between Bangor and the Menai Suspension Bridge. The five hectare site has been leased by the NWWT from the University College of North Wales and Arfon Borough Council since 1969.
The main habitat on the reserve is ash woodland on limestone with open areas of calcareous grassland. Coastal ash woodland is a rare habitat outside Scotland and limestone woodland and grassland are both rare habitats in Gwynedd. At the eastern end, where the clay soil dips below shale deposits, oak woodland replaces the ash.

Access is currently only possible from the shore. Public rights of way go down to the shore in several places from Upper Bangor and near Menai Suspension Bridge. Please be aware of the state of the tide and note that access may not be possible along the shore at certain states of the tide. A path enters the wood near the University Boat House; paths through the wood are narrow, steep and may be difficult in wet weather.
