Small limestone woodland in an old quarry near Llangollen.
Pisgah Quarry is a small and enchanting reserve with a fascinating mixture of woodland, wildflower grassland and superb views over the Vale of Llangollen. It forms part of Coed Pen y Graig overlooking the Dee Valley. Of special interest are its Ash woodland and calcareous grassland. Limestone was quarried from the site until 1830. The land was donated to the Wildlife Trust in 1990 following the wishes of Miss Hartley of Fron House.
The reserve is on a hill in the village of Froncysyllte off the A5, east of the town of Llangollen.
Directions from Froncysyllte:
From East: turn up the left fork opposite the B5434 and before the Aqueduct Inn. Follow the road up and to the left of the Methodist's Hill. Turn right past the school, between the stone walls.
From West: turn up right fork after the Aqueduct Inn, go up the steep hill, turn sharp right at the T junction opposite the phone box. Take the first left between the stone walls (before the school). Park at the end of the road.
