My dad,Stanley Raper, was maintenance man and my mum, Kitty, worked in the sewing room mending sheets for the boys dorms circa 1951. We lived in Clock House and our neighbours had a little boy called Willie Brown. He got his head stuck in the railings on the steps to the gym where we had films put on for the boys. We had the run of the grounds, particularly in Summer when the Barnados boys were away,in the swimming pool, the tennis court, the cricket pavilion. It was a heavenly, happy time. For a 6 to 7 year old, complete freedom to walk the woods, play in the river Verney along to Waterford. My mum never really knew what I got up to as a dare devil. Many, many happy memories

Hi Dave, The second part of David Pike's account of his life at Goldings was well worth waiting for. His memory was exceptional and it was so well written. I enjoyed it very much. Pop

Hi I am the daughter of Frederick Sheppard who was a master at Goldings. He produced the picture of the Verney that was used as the Christmas card that is shown on this site. My sister Josephine is moving and in sorting her stuff we found the original picture,if a little crumpled. We are selling most of his paintings as he always wanted us to have the proceeds as our legacy so are offering it to,sell. Before we do that, we wondered if anyone fronm Goldings would be interested in it. We would be looking for around £100 ( it needs framing)
