Hello Betty, many thanks for looking in on our site.Very interesting about your father as he must have been one of the first entries to Goldings as it opened in 1922.The shipping of boys and girls to the Dominions was a controversial issue that was encouraged by the British Goverment of the time who wanted for more British subjects to settle in Canada along with Australia, and eventually the Canadian Goverment stopped it but it continued in Australia until the mid sixties,as I was also encouraged to look at the oportunities that were available in Australia as a Goldings trained Carpenter, and many made a lot of success in both of these countries but there was also stories of being used for cheap labour, many thanks for adding this information.

My Dad, Walter Geary attended this technical school in 1922. He and over 200 other boys were then sent to Canada on the Minnedosa landing in Quebec in September of that year. He was 15 years old. He eventually found his way to Manitoba where he married my Mum. He died in 1966.
