Dear Monica

Thank you again for your last email with regards to putting something in to Missing, and Found in the Daily Mail for approximately three months time. This is absolutely fantastic, however the reason for this email is that I'd like to invite you to our Reunion on 7th October 2017 which would give you an opportunity of talking to many of the Goldings Old Boys who were brought up in Barnardo's homes. Some have absolutely fantastic stories, after leaving the Homes, one of the Old Boys who was at Goldings fought in the Korean War and was awarded the Military Medal, again the Old Boy who will be 100 the day after the Reunion, was one of those who found the Enigma machine on a German submarine that they boarded. He also has other aspects of his life, that are quite fantastic and his brain is in full working order. I can assure you, you will not be bored by the conversation that you can have with us Old Boys.

We could also take a photograph of any individual who may be looking to meet up with somebody who they've not seen since their childhood which again, would make a nice story. Bearing in mind thousands of boys went through the William Baker Technical School, Goldings, after being taught a trade. There are some wonderful stories about the slave labour that we were by many of the people who employed us. There will also be some stories that you would not be able to report!

I will close now but do hope you can attend. We can make all the necessary arrangements for you if you're coming by train and get you collected from the station. I've attached the programme of events of the day.

With kind regards,
Mike Justice MBE

Dear Monica,

I take this opportunity of thanking you for answering my email. You're one of the few people in journalism that have actually answered me and I really do appreciate it. I'm so sorry that you cannot assist us, as I actually believe that the story appertaining to all us old Dr Barnardo's boys, so many that have been successful in their lives whether it be the late Leslie Thomas, Justin Faschineau and Bruce Oldfield, Madeline Bell and of course, Iris Williams to name but a few. However, we have many successful Old Boys who may not be as well known as those I've mentioned, but they have wonderful stories of their successes in life after leaving Dr Barnardo's.

I again, appreciate you responding to my email, it was much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
Mike Justice MBE

Emails sent and received Mike Justice MBE to Daily Mail
From: M JUSTICE

Dear Monica,
I was brought up by Dr Barnardo's for the majority of my childhood and finished up for my latter school years, at a Dr Barnardo's home, known as the William Baker Technical School, Goldings in Hertford. This particular home opened in 1922, and closed in 1967. All of the 400 boys that were in this Home were taught a trade which consisted of printing, (if you were a printer, you had to stay till you were 21), there was painting and decorating, sheet metal work, shoe making, gardening, and carpentry. I myself, was trained as a carpenter. Also many of us from this particular home were ball boys at Wimbledon, from 1947 until the school closed in 1967.
We are having a 50 year reunion, and we would like as many 'Old Boys' who were in the Goldings, Dr Barnardo's home to attend, along with any staff who were also there. This is our 50th anniversary and of course many of us are in our twilight years. We've had many Old Boys come from Canada, Australia, and other parts of the world. Last year we had an Old Boy who was 99 years of age, and during the war he was one of the guys who was instructed to board a German submarine where they found the Enigma machine which of course, was brought back to Bletchley Park.
The person who organises this event every years is David Blower, his phone number is 01922 615 789. He works so hard on our behalf in making sure that everything runs smoothly but especially for this year, being our 50th, we all look forward to meeting as many Old Boys as possible at this very special celebration. We do have our website, www.goldings.org, and of course we have got the Reunion page.
I do so hope that you can assist us so that we can meet as many Old Boys who were at the Goldings home at the same time as ourselves. Many of us have so many stories, from when we left the William Baker Technical School to where we are in life in 2017. I have attached to this email, our programme and trust that you can assist us with regard to Missing and Found, as this is a milestone in so many of us Old Boys lives.
Yours sincerely, Mike Justice MBE
