Alan , your Canadian cousin Peter called me to tell me the miserable news that you have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. What with all of the other setbacks you have successfully overcome in life, treat this as just another one. Don't be discouraged, we have had two friends who had advanced pancreatic cancer and although they both went down hill at first, they both overcame the disease and made a full recovery. All the best.

Hello Dave Thanks for the Albion picture back + you done a great job enlarging from the little photo. It seems strange I arrived from Stepney in that lorry never dreaming I would learn to drive it one day.It stood me in good stead when I left dickes as I was sent to work for a shoe maker in hugging Hill near St Paul`s. Which is no longer there.I then got a job making army stretchers in Edmonton with a firm called Doherty, when one day the delivery driver was off sick & they were stuck. So I said I can drive Sir, which made the three brothers look at me in disbelief. So the chauffeur took me round the block said I was ok & off I went after he said do you know London. Yes Sir I replied only knowing how to get the Trollyybus to Liverpool St. Having delivered the various goods one of the brothers made me his chauffeur till I went in the army. I drove lorry`s Jeeps Bren gun carriers & finished Up driving the CO about on maneuvers Till I went to Korea. So the old Albion played a big part in my life to driving heavy goods when I came out of the army + psv license on coaches to taking antique furniture to Spain Here endith a small part of my life . Thanks again for the pic Scoffer

Sad news this week. John Hilton was the first boy to look after me when I arrived at Goldings, he kept my room tidy and made sure I got provisions from the kitchen etc. He got the princely sum of 2/6 a week, I was always too generous He always enjoyed reminding me at the reunions of the time he found a note which I had placed in a packet of cigarettes in my room which warned him of the consequences if any more cigarettes went missing. He will be sadly missed. I was in Durham Cathedral this afternoon for my weekly visit. I just sit a while with my thoughts and memories, Alan Dearman was top of the list today.
Looking forward to the reunion.

so very sad to read of John Hilton's death. He was such a happy person, excellent company and always had a really corny joke to share. Sincere condolences to Rose, who so ably supported him through all of their years together.

I was so sad to hear the news about John. We were good friends at both Golding's and the reunions. At the reunions, John always asked me if I had cycled down to Hertford which was a reference to the days I did that on visiting after leaving Golding's. RIP
Further sad news I have to relay to you is that on a visit to the Hospital yesterday, it was confirmed that I have Advanced Pancreatic Cancer and it is inoperable. Next Sunday at 8.15am I have a hospital appointment for a biopsy and on receipt of the results I will know what kind of Chemotherapy I can have. I should have been in Spain this week but cancelled on my GP's advice as I had been fast tracked for these appointments. In the mean time I will continue to live my every day life until such times as it is no longer possible and that includes being at this years reunion providing I put Diesel in the car instead of petrol like last year !!!
