I remember a hymn that the governor the reverent MacDonald wrote it was in The Goldings Hymn Book during my time there the first verse goes like this !!
Over the storms of life
Wisdom still cries.
Stern and prolong the strife.
Valiant arise.
Why sleep the hour away.
Brave men don't cower away.
Soon fades the flower away.
And lost is the prize.

Hi Dave in my time at Goldings 1944-48 I dont know if you can recall a hymn that went like this, I can not sing it to you but here we go, "God be in my eyes & in my looking, God be at my end & at my departing", there is more to it but my voice has just gone dry so going to have a beer on you.

Many thanks Pop,the one that does spring to mind is "There is a green hill far away" as we sang it to Mr Greenhill as he cut our hair, at that he proceeded to lop it all off, with some of them looking like Kojak! but he was well qualified for the job...being a Gardener!
