Many thanks Pete. For those who don't know what it,s about,an old boy, Rodney Mitchell 52-54 who is in a nursing home after having a massive stroke and no family to visit him that I can gather after speaking to him (Apparently after I put the phone down to him he got quite upset)We found out about him after a visitor who visit's his own wife pop's in to see him because he has no visitors so we are led to believe.Barnardo's contacted me to see if I could help, but as I don't live in Gillingham,I contacted Pete, and anyone who live,s in the same area I would like to think they could visit also to lift his spirit's and show how Goldings Old Boys support each other...that's how strong the bond was! If anyone could also help, contact me and I will give the details of the home, but for security reasons not via the guest book...many thanks Dave.

Hi Dave and everybody. I have been keeping up to date on the subject of the memorial stone for our brothers who died at Goldings and buried in the Waterford Churh. I was at a National Council meeting on Monday and the subject was on the agenda and I'm so pleased everything is now in full swing. It's great to know that some donations have already been recieved and I am sure there will be more to come from many of us. The main funding is coming from an account called "The Grave Project" this fund is the result of a Barnardo old girl and N/C member, Jean Clarke who has raised several thousands of pounds during her campaign to ensure the deaths of Barnardo children are properly acknowledged and it was her efforts that we now have the memorial in Barkingside cemetary.(get out your winter 2008 Guild Messenger to read the full story) We should all put our hands together and say thank you Jean. We should also pull together and ensure that Jean is able to attend our event in October as she has indicated to me that she would love to do so. I am forwarding Jeans E-Mail address to Dave so he can communicate with her as she lives in Birmingham.

Many thanks Len and Chris for the Donation to The Memorial Stone.I don't know if any of you are aware, but Len was a Pall Bearer to his best mate from Aberdeen with one of the boys. Harry Brown, 16 years of age.Since researching the boys we have discovered that two of the boys names were spelt incorrectly, and the date on the Headstone's was when they were buried, not when they died as confirmed by their death certificates held at Barnardo's and discovered by Martine...interesting.

The Goldings Lapel Badge's have now been made, but I only had 100 made.To cover our cost only £2.50 at the re-union,or the same price plus P&P before. They are an exact copy of the one's Jimmy Jame's had made,a picture of them will be displayed shortly on our notice board. George Loftus has sent me a donation towards the Memorial Stone for Waterford church (read "The Boys that never left Goldings on the site)which I will now forward to Barnardo's,many thanks George.
