Special Souvenir Calendar

Hello David,

Firstly let me just THANK YOU so much for the “100 years of progress” calendar.
It’s often difficult to know where to start in a brief response when receiving such a wonderful gift.

The pictures of the calendar express the many happy memories, plus the trials and the tribulations of ever attending such a distinguished school.
What Barnardo’s and the school was trying so desperately hard to achieve for the boys made it all the more realistic once realised when we had finally left.
Having the ability to offer some form of recognised trade quality, an actual physical capability and a feeling of accomplishment resulted in many young lads going on to become worthy tradesmen in their young, often independent, world as they slowly entered into it.
Given their trained background confidence within them soon materialised and slowly became recognised by their superiors.

Personally, I was found a position into a vast factory network of some 5000 employees. Noisy, cold, uncomfortable, sometimes mundane, meticulous yet somehow quietly encouraged.
Accommodation rested with a retired couple of good natured folk who supported me in those first tender months. All found for me by associates of the schools after-services.
Sadly the factory gates closed for future apprentice applicants due to a disagreement between management and the industrial unions regarding the use of cheap labour.

However, every cloud has a silver lining and I then opted to join the British Forces.
Having had experience with “Skip” Culver and his bugle band suddenly stood me in good stead and I was readily accepted into uniform............but that’s a another story!!

Thank you David yet again for the calendar. Truly a wonderful gift full of happy memories among like-minded young individuals and friends.
Greatly appreciated.
Take care,
