I have the unfortunate job of informing you that Bob Whibley passed away two days ago. I first met Bob and his wife Rene eight years ago when I was paying my last vist for that year to Goldings after the reunuion on the Sunday and by chance his son-in-law had drove him to Goldings and at this stage Bob wasn't aware we held reunions and asked my permission to walk around Goldings and at this I said it would cost him a £1-00,and as he started to put his hand in his pocket I told him I too was a Goldings boys and at this we became firm friends as we exchanged our recollections of our time at Goldings.Throughout the years we kept in touch by phone, and even though we went to Goldings in different era's a bond developed which is somthing that Goldings Old Boys seem to have. Robert Whibley Goldings 1943-46 Cairns,Bootmaker. Bob was there at the same time as Frank Norman and told me he was a "Loner", he also sent me a copy of Frank Normans book which made interesting reading. A wreath will be sent on our behalf Robert Whibley R.I.P.

The boy concerned in the shooting stood trial at the Hertford Assizes and was sentenced to be detained at the Queen's pleasure, the normal sentence for a juvenile convicted of murder. I remember my Father telling me that the other boy present had given evidence in a mature manner and had stood up very well under extreme pressure in cross examination. I think his name was Longman. To my memory, I think that the incident happened in the very late 40's and that the victim was a local farmer.
Happy New Year to Everyone!

Hi Dave. I doubt very much that story of A war time incident is true, as you know I spent three years of the war at goldings and I would have heard tell by the older boys who told loads of stories of events that happened before my time there, as far as I know we had no armoury at goldings until maybe when the cadet corp. started up but that was after the war, we only had a A.T.C unit in goldings and had to go to a school in Hertford on a Friday night for instruction. A story like that would have been highly publicized in the press and most certainly by the Hertfordshire Mercury, I defend my Goldings brothers in that this incident never happened where Goldings boys were involved so I rest my case.
