My grandfather, John Marchant, was a bandmaster at Goldings in the 1920s. I understand that he walked the boys from Hertford station to the Goldings estate in 1922. Does anyone have any further information about him or where I could find this as I am trying to trace his employment record with Barnardos. I know he was at WNTC in North Elmham, Norfolk in 1911 and I think he left there to go to Stepney at some point as that's where he came from with the boys in 1922. I would also like to know when he retired from Goldings. Thanking you in anticipation. Carol Parker

This is the letter I received today fronm the wife of former Goldings Boy who husband along with his two other brothers were at Goldings in the early 50's. All three brothers were in Aberdeen House and in the Gardening Trade. Two of the brothers have passed away and only her Husband remains.Clearing out the brothers house she came across many items he obtained when he was at Goldings,a medal, bibles, reunion invites for the Dr Barnardo boys and girls, and Goldonians from the 50's.She has kindly donated them to other items we display at the reunion. He hasn't been back to Goldings since he left, but subject to his health she his hoping to bring him to our next reunion. 6th March 2016 Dear David It was most pleasant to chat with you today and I am so glad that you will be able to make use of the magazines. I have mentioned the reunion to Ron and that you will be in contact with us nearer the date. Although quite open today I am uncertain when it comes closer to the time if he would want to attend although in my view it would do him some good. I have also told him that he is by no way the eldest former Goldings boy which did make him smile so I hope that he would like to go even if only for a short while. I will certainly encourage him to attend. I have also enclosed with the magazines a medal that was awarded to George and have detailed below the writing on the lid to the best of my ability. I have also enclosed two bibles awarded to George during his time at Goldings. There is little point in me hanging on to them as they will only get lost and forgotten and you may be able to put them to better use. But if they are of no interest then please feel free to dispose of them.
