Reg,many thanks for your suggestion which is a very good idea.I will start it off David John Blower Born 16th March 1949. Arrived at Goldings March 14th (2 days before my 13th birthday) as Mr Wheatley explained to Walsall Social Services we do not accepted pupils until they are 13! I arrived at Goldings fron Hammerwich House,Lichfield,Staffs a Walsall Council Home for boys who were "beyond parental control" After accepting the invitation by Mr Wheatley to become a Goldings boy,and thinking it wasn't very far from Walsall! three hours later I arrived at the "Mansion" that was to change my life forever.Trained as a Carpenter by Mr Broster (who came in 1950)a wonderful man and first class teacher. Left in April 1965,a Somerset boy,who later became House Captain, and a member of the succesful football team that came second in the league to Cheshunt, losing it by one point! Who was to become very despondent in later years to find that some pen pusher associated with finance recommended it should close! One arm of Dr Barnardo's that led the way in teaching kids of our backround, ably supported by loyal Staff and a supreme leader...Mr Wheatley. P.S. Three years and one Month of enjoyment in my life!

Hi Dave Generally speaking, I read the Goldings Guest Book website at least every two weeks and find it quite interesting, particularly entries from Alan Dearman, David Wheatley, John Sansom and yourself Dave. I’m not saying the other entries are not interesting, they are of course to those who know those ‘old boys’ posting the entries. As it is, I often see messages from old boys such as – Len (and Chris), Jerry Davies, Alan Dearman, David Wheatley, Angell, Peter Drummond, Bob (& Roma), John, Johnny Sansom and yourself of course.
PLEASE DON’T LET ANYONE READING THIS MISUNDERSTAND THE OBJECT OF MY SUGGESTION. IT CAN’T REALLY BE VERY ORIGINAL.
Of those names I have mentioned, I personally only know who Alan D., David W., John S. and yourself Dave are.
Whenever any of these chaps have something to say I can relate to them and find their comments interesting. I feel quite sure I would find all of the old Goldings boys comments or entries interesting if only I had some idea who they are and what years they were at Goldings. Which brings me to the point of why I am writing to the Guest Book.
If all of us, after making an entry into the Guest Book and mentioning their NAME, would simply note the YEARS THEY WERE AT GOLDINGS and perhaps their House, we could tax our memories and perhaps remember if we knew them. It could be that I knew some of the other chaps I have mentioned, I have no idea.
I quite believe that many old boys read the Guest Book, but I also believe that given my suggestion, that the site would be much more interesting to many more old boys and as well, that you would have many more entries.
ANY COMMENTS? Reg Longman – Somerset – 1947-1950
