BARNARDO's IN THE GUINESS BOOK OF RECORDS 2013!!!

Margaret and I had the pleasure of yet again attending the latest 'Barnardo Young Supporters' Concert at the Royal Albert Hall where we help back stage selling programmes and raffle tickets etc. We then have the opportunity to watch the concert.

On November 5th an evening of Music from a massed choir of 1,200 schoolchildren from schools across England, Wales and Gibraltar took place. Ticket sales alone raised £40,000 and all the proceeds go to Barnardo's.

The highlight of the evening was when over 3,000 of us, Accompanied on the Hall's Grand Organ, smashed the record for being the largest "Ocarina" Ensemble in the world, beating the previous record of 831 set in Jingdezhen Primary School in China some three years ago.

Hi Dave,
The service. It was quiet and reflective and made all the more poignant by the reading of the Goldonians register and by your representation. I do hope that next year, we will benefit from more attendance by giving you more notice. I often walk my dogs through Goldings and look at the site of the cricket square, the pitches of the nets are still visible in any period of a few dry days.
Thank you for the histories of the old boys, I passed on the stories during our coffee after the service.
With kind regards,
Malcolm

At the last re-union 2013 Aftercare approached me to tell me when they was clearing a office they came across a card system used by Barnardo’s which indexed boys who were in Barnardo’s and later went to Goldings. The cards appear to have the persons Barnardo’s number and their number at Goldings along with personal details as viewed by Barnardo’s. If your name appears on this list or perhaps a former Barnardo friend for them to contact Aftercare, contact Martine King on Tel No 0208 4987553.
I have already returned at the re-union, cards belonging to Gordon Rath, John Burr, John Mercury, and Bob Bone (Jordan)

I would just like to thank Brian Perrier and his good wife Ellen, even though Brian only came out of Hospital on friday gone,he on our behalf attended the Service at Waterford Church dedicated to the Goldings boys who were buried their, along with another boy who died at Goldings on an outward bound in Wales David Abdi, but his mother insisted he was buried at Barkingside,as this was his first home, and his name is the first one on the memorial stone at Barkingside.Further photos have now been added to the photo gallery under reunion 2013,many thanks to Billy Knight for sending them in,also in the same index under the name B.S.P. has been added details and photos of the Barnardo School of Print Bowling Club which continued long after Goldings closed and still does to this day.
