Hello Dave It was very gratifying to hear from several old Goldings boys and to hear that my book ‘Suffer Little Children’ was so well received and appreciated by them. It was as well, nice to find out that my book, after being auctioned by ‘Pinheads’ favourite son and Goldings honorary ‘dickey boy’ David, raised such a tidy amount towards David B’s ‘Goldings Guest Book’ costs. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Barnardo’s most distinguished fund raiser Alan Dearman, for helping to make this auction happen. If it’s at all appropriate, I would also like to thank Sammy Hill and Gordon Rath for their having won the bidding for my book and sincerely trust and hope they will enjoy my story. I’m truly honoured to have been a part of it all. Some of my happiest teenage years were spent at Goldings and it’s because I remember those years so very well, that it brings me a certain amount of sadness to know that the Goldings old boys reunion takes place each year and I’m not there due, partly to my age, affordable time, and the dislike of flying, I find it difficult, and therefore do not attend. Regardless, and if God’s willing as they say, by ‘hook or by crook’, next year my wife Donna and I will attend. Reg Longman – Somerset House – 1947-1950.
