Many thanks Reg, as I have about 15 other similar pictures to put on it looks like they were about the early 50's (as there is no writing on the back.) To Joan (Embleton) and David Wheatley I have now had your photos copied and will be returning the originals shortly. And just remember Mr Wheatley did once have "Hair" as you will see shortly, and was a very active man in sport and the seat of learning, many thanks to both of you with your stories it helps show us that both masters were dedicated in their rolls at Goldings, and how lucky most of us were. If I could just quote Billy Knight as he was showing his grandson a picture of Goldings, now just imagine this conversation in a scouse accent! "Cor grandad did you really live in that house?" "Yes" "Well what happened to you to live there?" "Well I fell on hard times!" He sat there confused!

Hi Dave, I thought I should respond to Sammy’s mention of Victor ‘Fuzz’ Foley being the chap holding the rabbit in the photo with three other boys. Sorry John, but that isn’t ‘Fuzz’ in the picture. Fuzz Foley #24 was a special friend of mine, he, like you, and I were in Somerset house together.
Scoffer was quite right though; Fuzz Foley and Fanny Noble were in the RAF and were paratroopers. They were stationed/posted (together) with the MELF (Middle East Land Force) in Egypt.
Fuzz was one of the first boys to be a printer apprenticed and to live at the Verney. He was also the Kettle drummer in the School and Army Cadet Band. As I mentioned, Fuzz Foley was a special friend of mine and is mentioned quite a bit in my book 'Suffer Little Children'. He had very crinkly, wavy hair which bothered him immensely, hence the nick-name ‘Fuzz’. His picture is on page 388 in my book.
The last time I saw him was in about 1952. At the time he was heartbroken due to having fallen in love with a married woman in Hertford. In those days couples didn’t divorce easily, so of course he had a miserable problem. I know he died very young, but I don’t know any further details.
I was so pleased to see Sammy mention his name and to know he isn’t completely forgotten.

Hello Malcolm, there was one other boy who is not mentioned or buried at Waterford, his name was David Abdi, who was on a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in Wales for a group of Goldings Boys to gain their Silver Award. On the trek on the Brecon Hills he began to fall behind and got seperated from the party and at the same time mist was descending on the hills.A search party was organised but without any success. The following morning his body was found, and at the inquest it was stated that David had picked up a virus some time previously which may have been a factor in his demise, this was Spring 1965.When I was organising the memorial stone at Waterford I made enquires to Barnardo as to why he wasn't buried at Waterford and they informed me that at his mothers request she wanted him buried at Barkingside which was his first Barnardo home and is now the first name on the memorial at Barkingside along with many, many other names.I had just left Goldings that same month of the tragedy. The write up at the time on his short life is on our front page top right hand corner under the heading "Goldonians" go to Goldonian Summer 1965 page 6.He was 15 at the time and a printer by trade, and was part of the schools football team, basketball team, cricket and athletics.I do hope this information is of interest to the Service, and the mention of his short live will be remembered to many who are not aware of this tragedy. Many thanks for the interest shown about William Baker Technical School and for visiting our site.I will try to organise someone to represent us but this short notice may present a problem as I know many of the Old Boys would have liked to have been there including me Dave.

I am sorry that this is so late but our new Vicar, The Reverend Jenny Gray has inaugurated an All Souls' Service at St Michael and All Angels Church Waterford. The service is this coming Sunday, 3rd November at 6.30 p.m. We will, of course, include the names of those Goldonians that died and are buried in the churchyard but please let me know of any other deceased Goldonians that you would wish us to include. Anybody that can attend the service will be most welcome, please make yourselves known to the sidesman.

As the years go on ones memory goes!, I should have said does anyone know the other three chaps in the photo with Fuzz Foley? As he was still at Goldings , when I left in 1949 to join the RAF, they could have just joined the School, Memory loss Sam
