What a nice and amazing guy, former Goldings Boy & Author of "Suffer Little Children. I and Margaret had the enjoyable pleasure of having lunch with him and his wife Donna here in Melton Mowbray today. We spent a little under 3 hours talking about our time at Goldings although we were 9 years apart. Reg spoke fondly of his time as a "Dickie Boy" and has a high regard for Mr Wheatley and "Tech White", not to mention many others who were there. I was able to put a phone call through to Dave and gave Reg the chance to speak with him. Reg will be in the UK until Mid May. He will be keeping an eye on the Golding Site during his visit. He plans to take a look at the end of the week, during his stay with David Wheatley. Now I have had my Second Cataract operation, I will shortly be able to have new glasses and cannot wait to finish reading Reg's book which I'm half way through. I have a copy that Reg has signed and donated to our Old Boys Association to be auctioned off at the Re-union with a suggestion that the proceeds go towards funding our web site. At my suggestion, Reg and Donna are going to look at the posibility of making their 2014 visit in the autumn rather than spring to fit in with our reunion. Reg loves our Pork pies and I was able to get the local shop to donate one to him. As I gave it to Reg on arrival at our meeting venue, he produced a bag with one for me, having first visited the local shop!!! Reg finally left with a small goodie bag from me, containing a cottage collection Box, Some Barnardo book marks and a couple of Barnardo Badges.

We now have thanks to Jean, and Martine King,a letter from Princess Margaret dated August 1951,thanking Barnardo's for the wonderful garden bench (I assume this was made at Goldings)and personally signed by her which will be on display at our reunion.(can anyone shed more light on this story?) An original green school blazer with the name J.Kennedy sewn inside and not our school number as I expected, perhaps Pop can shed more light on this one? And just to put Tony,s mind at rest, yes you can wear it on the door but you will have lose 6 stone! we must have been very thin when we were at Golding,s I can,t get my arm in it let alone my body! Many books on the learning of printing at Goldings and one signed "The Property of Jimmy James" And this will interest Bob (Robertson) Plywood about an inch thick with copper plates glued to it etched with various pictures and the school badge (excuse my ignorance Bob,but I was in the Carps Shop so explain what they were called as they are covered in ink! Reg Longman is in the U.K.this week and I have today spoken to him via the telephone, and he wants to sponsor the Goldings web-site and hoping that others would be interested along with another old boy who has also made the same request..I am open to ideas on this one?
