Len, I have been assured by Brian Cunningham that Bricklaying was tried out in his days but never took off,but perhaps Pop will know better as his trade was once bricklaying, and was this another reason among many other finer points that Mr Wheatley gave Pop the job? Painters and Decoraters were introduced early 50's apparently because the inmates in your day wern't sure which way the brush was held,so it wasn't till later when the elite boys arrived that this trade was introduced!
Message to John Horn..I will ring you with a number concerning Eric MacKay.

Alan Dearman - National Council
I returned home last evening from the National Council meeting at Barkingside to find the sad news regarding the death of Eric McKay on April 18th. What a shame I was not able to convey the news earlier to council members who, just a couple of years ago, voted for him when he received the Goldings award. As the National Council representative, I had the pleasure, along with Dave, Martine King, John Horn and others, of attending the presentation in Bath.
What an inspiration Eric was and as one of our Goldings brothers, we should all feel proud. RIP Eric
