Dave, What Authority insisted that the "Technical" be removed from the school name?
It was the "William Baker Technical School when it opened in 1922 and to the best of my knowledge, when it closed in 1967 In the same way that we were all raised in DR BARNARDOS HOMES!!!
The reason behind that decision is an insult to all those dedicated members of staff who sent so many of us on the road to a successful life.
If our 'Masters' were not qualified, just take a look at todays education results!!!

We are in the process of copying the Goldonians to our site which is very consuming in time but we will plod on so every one has a chance to recall their time at the William Baker Technical School with the last one first 1967,and by this time authority insisted that the "Technical" was removed due to "masters" not being qualified! for modern teachings!.How blinkered was this observation?
So as you read the last Goldonian March 1967 you will notice it is now "The William Baker School"
Johnny Allen (mid 60's)is asking if anyone can recall his friend Malcolm Turner from Cairns,as he would like to get in touch if anyone has contact with him.

I enjoyed looking at the pictures of Reg & Donna Longman taken during their recent visit to the Dearmans. Prior to our short holiday in Gran Canaria, Carolyn & I spent a delightful 24 hours in their company. Reg & I hadn't seen each other for over 62 years, but it did not take long to re-explore our mutual time at Goldings during the late 40's. I only wished that my father could have listened in. He was always so proud of the achievements of so many "boys" who went through his care and Reg would have been seen as another example of a Dickie boy done well!
