Dave I remember a coloured boy by the name of Moses Hibbert who left the tinsmith shop soon after I started in there would be about late 1942 to early 1943,he was senior prefect and was in charge of the tinsmiths and would march us from the parade ground to tinsmiths in the mornings and afternoons,he was very freindly to me probably with me being small.I think he was in Macall house and he did play for the school football team. About three months after he left he came back on a visit and he was in uniform I had gone with Mr deBoeck to a little store room over the printers shop and Hibbert wanted to know were I was so when I came back I had a good chat with him he new I came from manchester and thats were he had been for parachute training at ringway airport as he had joined the parachute regiment and just past out seem to remember he had three stripes. John Horn. PS Ringway became Manchester Airport soon after the war

6-7 years ago I met in Hertford Museum a Ron Crawley who wasn't a Goldings Boy but he sold stamps to them at half price as he obtained them through the post box by Hertford North Station with a penknife! Later he was caught by the local Bobby and sent to a home in Birmingham (thats novel I came down to Hertford from north of Birmingham, and he came north from Hertford to Birminham)He used to live by the Mayflower and the Station and remembers that all around Hertford they used to park up Spitfires so they woudn't get bombed if they were put in fields, and regular as clockwork with D-Day approaching they used to bring the planes down to Hertford North but couldn't get them under the bridge nearby so they had to turn round on the Mayflower with the planes and find another route to get them out of Hertford, but they kep't on doing it on a regular basis and somebody never twigged it! He had a very good friend from Golding's, Mo Hibbit,a colured lad who later lived in Ware, does anyone remember him,and does anyone know of his wereabouts?
