Sad to learn that John is no longer with us. I always enjoyed talking to him at the Reunions as he came from an era just before our arrival at Goldings.

I have known John via our reunions, what a wonderful character that Goldings was so lucky have stay, and he seemed to reflect our special humour that was nurtured at Goldings. A wonderful wealth of information on life at Goldings as he was there throughout the war years, and left in 1945. He described the Governor, this is before Mr Wheatley arrived as very strict on discipline, and if you saw him even walking around the grounds you had to salute him or you would be on a charge! but as he mentioned things vastly improved for the better with the arrival of Mr Wheatley. His nickname at Goldings was "Nipper" and when Eric Mackie (former boy who lived at Goldings in Johns time) won the Goldings award he was determined to meet him as he was in the bunk bed below him at Goldings, so John being John off he went to Bath to meet up with him once again on his own, but we both sunk a few pints in Bath, wonderful company. He also descibed to me were the air raid shelters where at Goldings, and how they used to flood when it rained (opposite sick bay on the way up to top field) but they put them to good use anyway as thats were they used to have a "drag" We will all miss you John, and your humour, R.I.P.

It was sad to see the news of John Horn's death. John was a great character with a huge sense of humour and a capacity to down a few pint's, of beer, which he enjoyed. We have happy memories of spending a few late nights at the reunion's doing just that but as we all know he has missed the last few due to illness and will be sadly missed at the future reunions.
Our condolences to all the family.
