Hi Dave,
I'm unable to attend the Golding's cup final again this year as I will be giving a Barnardo Talk to the Attenborough & Chilwell Woman's club in Nottingham at 7.45pm and was booked many month's ago, otherwise I would be their to represent Golding's. Did you go to Wembley on Sunday? you must be disappointed at the out come. I watched the game on TV and was routing for Walsall with them being a Midland's team, but on the day, Bristol City were the better side and have an excellent record in the competition. Going back to the days when it was the Freight Rover Trophy, I was a Photographer at the Wembley final in 1987 when Bristol City lost 5-4 on penalties against Mansfield Town and again in 1988 when it was the Sherpa Van Trophy when Wolves beat Burnley 2-o

Hi Dave So very sorry to hear the sad news about Brian Perrier. Although we moved in different circles within Goldings, I do remember him and if I remember correctly he was a big lad but always having a laugh. It seems that just lately all I seem to hear is of friends and people I know of in England passing away. Please along with all other goldings boys give my regards to his family and I sincerely hope it is a peaceful time for everyone concerned, Dave do you remember David Abdi who passed away whilst on a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. Brilliant lad and so young. I liked him so much. Please take care Ray Hillier

Yes Alan it is the same person. Sunday March 22nd is a big day for Walsall Football Club, the first time in it's history they will appear at Wembley v Bristol City,it looks like the town will be empty.Their last famous footballing feat was when they beat Arsenal in 1933!and as a bonus they were given a prawn lunch.the goals were scored by Gilbert Allsop, many other players we produced locally were Alan Clarke,Bert Williams,Phil Prkes,Alan Buckley,Vinnie Samways,Colin Taylor, and many more. Also the new pound coin was designed by a schoolboy from Walsall, and the runner up was also from my home town Queen Mary's Grammar School. Up the Saddlers!
