I read Keith Tovells(Elkins) story with great interest, it was well written, sad at times but very uplifting. I do hope Keith can get to the reunion. I smile when I read of the antics and escapades the Goldings boys got up to, I often wonder if I really was at the same school as them. I know the staff wasn't aware of half the boys got up to, but we knew twice as much as the boys thought. See you all in October. Pop

Thanks for your comments Alan,Although I don't remember your face I do recall a boy wearing a leg iron and that you were quite a spunky guy because I use to admire you because you seemed to attemp most sports,I was always a bit timid and shy, and although I would have a go was not that good at sport. I also remember and liked Dave Kimber and remember his eczema being quite bad at that time, are you still in contact with him? It was nice to see you at the Village although only for a short time even though I was a bit nervous, being it was my first Barnardos reunion "shame on me" But looking forward to the Goldings Reunion in October. What a Web site love reading the stories and profiles oh what memories they bring back, even though I don't know many from my time.Anyway take care and speak to you soon. Regards Keith

Just finished reading KEITH ELKINS story on the site and what a fascinating and in many ways, sad story it is but highlights just how Barnardos took care of us all but we probably did not apprieciate how dedicated the staff were at the time we were in their care. I have to say Keith, you are a credit to both Goldings and Barnardos. Your life and memories at Barkingside are similar to my own. The holidays, outings, sporting facilities, church and Sunday school and gearies Secondary modern school, which I also attended. I also had one of those uncle & Aunt's who's name was Mr & Mrs King who took me out and invited me to their home for tea on Sundays. I was also fortunate to have maternal Uncle's & Aunt's living in Shepherds Bush and Poplar in London. Like myself Keith, you also had to overcome your Disability problems both at Barkingside and Goldings but with their help, came through it all. Not sure if I remember you at Goldings but one of my best mates was David Kimber, who also suffered with eczema. I also share your comments regarding the influence many of the staff had on us, Pinhead, Pop Steele, David Appleyard, Skip, Tech White, and Mr TordoffI to mention just a few. I left Goldings in January 1959 and have worked most of my life. My own story "Before During and After Barnardos" is also on the Goldings web site, although it has been updated and now and put into book form by my wife, Margaret. We now take copies to the many Barnardo talks and presentations that I do all over the Midlands. My Goldings Profile can also be found on the web site.
