MEMORIES OF A SAD BUT ALSO HAPPY DAY.

It was a cold Sunday with snow still lying around.
My last breakfast came and went.
It was now time for my last morning service.
I walked to the vestry, put on my choir robes then walked up the aisle with the rest of the choir for the last time.
As I had done a number of times before, I read the morning lesson, which was also to be for the last time.
On leaving the church, it was fast approaching my last lunch time as I eagerly awaited the arrival of my dad.
Tea time came and went but still no sign of my dad.
I now faced attending an unexpected evensong but shortly before the service was due to start, my dad arrived....It was a quick good bye to my mates as I picked up my kit bag, walked out the back door at the bottom of the stone passage and into a taxi with my dad.
I was about to pass through the gates of Goldings for the last time and leave Barnardos.
That was 52 years ago, January 4th 1959.
At the time, I had no idea that I would ever return to Goldings but thanks to the reunions, I have done so many times and 2011 will be no exception!

Happy New Year Dave,
Nice to read about Mr deBoek`s daugther`s memories of Goldings. In the 50`s I often went to help dig Mr DeBoeks allotment at Hertford Heath, he paid my bus fare and I spent most of the Satuday helping in his garden and then on his allotment that backed onto his garden, O happy days. I never met any of his children, his wife always gave me cake to take back to the school, did not last long in the dorm (Somerset of course).
Take care Elsie and keep in touch with us.
Happy New Year everyone, also to the
the Goldings Residents of today, hope to see you next year.
