John, your last message has prompted me to recall some of our Goldings reunion history. I left Goldings in January 1959 and kept in touch with Barnardo's for a few years but this dried up for various reasons for a few years. One evening in 1983 I was surprised to see an article in the letters page of the Nottingham Evening post about the Goldings reunions. This letter had been submitted by Bill Charlton. I think it had also been circulated to many local papers around the Country. So in 1983 I attended my first of many Goldings reunions which were held at the print school, Sele School, Goldings sick bay and the scout hut in Hertford and now at the Sele community centre. I missed a few in the late 80s and 90s due to holiday commitments. I estimate that I have now attended around 24 reunions up to the present day.
I can recall many of those who were involved in organising our reunions. These included my old mate Mac Lang and his family who lived in Nottingham. Others include the Charlton brothers, Tom Cotton, John Hunt, and Jimmy James to mention just a few.
Mac lang was also involved in getting Skip Culver to a couple of reunions when Skip lived in a nursing home in Deal which I had found out by chance as my wife at the time came from Deal.
Mac went to Deal to collect Skip and take him home again.
On the subject of skip, how can we ever forget his morning calls with quotes like "What a lovely morning, the sun is burning your eyes out" "Lovely day for a murder" and "Hands off your cocks and on with your socks".
Yes, we owe so much to Dave and to many who are no longer with us, so long may our memories and reunions continue.

Nostalgic Return to Goldings by Old boys from Barnardos School of Printing Hertford for their annual reunion on Saturday. This is an extract from last weeks Mercury from 25 years ago. Sam Edgar was at our reunion which was nice to see, he was the Principal master at that time, and often comes to our reunion. Due to dedicated people like Dave and his helpers we are still going strong, long may it last!! John(no12)

An interesting fact
An interesting fact about October 2010 it has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This only happens once in 823 years based on Chinese fengshui.
What a great month, 5 weekends!!!

Hi Dave
I feel I must add to Alan Dearmans message and say how much I agree with him, to arrange the visit to Goldings, plus the reunion, on top of all the everyday things like the web site is very impressive. Over the years the reunion has had many dedicated old boys, John James, Tom Cotton, and many, many others, people that will always go that bit extra, and you are one of them, we are very lucky to have you. My very best wishes to you and your family John(No12)
