ELVIS PRESLEY'S THIRD NUMBER 1 RECORD IN 1961 WAS WRITTEN WAY BACK IN 1911. "SURRENDER" ALSO HAPPENED TO BE HIS SHORTEST SINGLE TIMEWISE - IT LASTED 1 MINUTE AND 51 SECONDS, NONETHELESS IT HELD THE TOP SPOT FOR 4 WEEKS. THIS WAS ELVIS'S 8TH SINGLE TO REACH NUMBER 1 IN THE UK CHARTS AND THE 5TH TO GET TO NUMBER ONE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE POND. WHEN THE SINGLE WAS RELEASED IT LEAPT FROM NUMBER 27 TO NUMBER 1 IN THE SPACE OF JUST 1 WEEK. AT THE TIME THIS WAS THE BIGGEST JUMP TO THE TOP SPOT IN CHART HISTORY.

I thought the bench day was excellent, a happy occasion but tinged with a little sadness when you think of all the staff and boys who are no longer with us.

Can I believe it ("Gasp in astonishment") did my husband give me a compliment in that last message to Len. quote "AND WIVES WHO MAKE IT A TRULY EASIER TASK TO CARRY OUT".
