Hello Peter D. regarding your getting in touch with someone in Canada who could help find relatives migrated from England to Canada during the past century. There’s rather a nice lady who I’m sure will help you find some details regarding British Barnardo children who were migrated to Canada. Her name is Ivy Sucie. Unfortunately, for privacy reasons I shouldn’t give out her email address on the internet. However my email address, which has already been displayed on this site several times is: longman.rd@gmail.com. If you would like to send me an email direct, I will be pleased to send you Ivy’s.
You could of course contact Barnardo’s Making Connections, they too will give you the information you are looking for, however they will quite possibly charge you for any research they do. It wouldn’t cost anything if you contact Ivy.
Regards, Reg

Yesterday I was contacted by Keith Brierley, who with his twin brother was at Goldings, and both left in 1955 and moved to Blackpool where they worked as Coach Builders. They are both, due to ill health unable to attend the re-union but send there regards to us all.I have sent them the D.V.D's on Goldings to help them enjoy their fond memories of Goldings. They remember a few of the lads names, especially Billy Knight and his brother arriving. For those who are not aware when Mr DeBoeck retired in 1965 they both returned to continue teaching in the Sheet Metal Shop and were there when sadly Mr Wheatley told all the Staff that Goldings was to close, and they are both convinced that Goldings should have continued, even up to the present day.Like Jimmy James,Mr Noble, who were also old boys, felt the need to return to their "Home" Goldings!

Hi Reg just a quick note hoping you could help, in 1911/1919 some members of my past family were sent to Canada. Is there a Barnardo's or something similar with an address where one may be able to continue the search for information

Hi Dave, thought I should let you know that the ‘licker’ and his charming wife Margaret Dearman arrived here in Canada OK, and let me say what ‘bright sparks’ they are, it’s a pleasure having them here. Alan met up with is long lost cousin Michael and it was touching watching them reminiscing and crying on each other’s shoulders. (Be sure to give him the gears when you meet up with him at the reunion.) But seriously we have lots to talk about regarding Goldings. I told him we were going to have ‘dogmeat’ for breakfast today. Alan doesn’t seem to remember what ‘Dogmeat’ was. Sammy and Scoffer would know. Mind you, the food may have improved since the late 40s after we had left, but believe me ‘dogmeat’ (spiced sausage meat patties), like cheese pie were just great. Tell you more later. Reg Longman
