Alan Dearman - Barnardo National Council
Hi everyone, Hope you are enjoying the early summer weather.
As I'm sure you all know, I go all over the UK giving talks and doing a power point presentations about Barnardo's and my experience in their care. Many times there are strange connections with people attending, the list is endless and two many to mention. Yesterday was no exception. I visited a ladies Methodist church group of around 25 members in Annesley Woodhouse. Annesley is a small town, in the District of Ashfield, just a few miles north of Nottingham and not too far from Mansfield. In the audience was a lady who knew me over 25 years ago when I worked at the Nottingham City Hospital, making prosthetic limbs, a job I secured in 1966 thanks to the wood and leatherwork skills acquired at Golding's. A bigger surprise was to come when I displayed some slides of Golding's. Another lady interrupted and said she had visited Golding's. When I asked for what reason, she said that her uncle worked there!! I was totally "Gobsmacked" when she told me who it was because I personally owe so much to this man for what I learned from him. What he did not know about shoe repairing & making was not worth knowing and that person was Frank Tordoff!!!

Ernie Warren left 3 or 4 weeks after I arrived in Somerset House, Goldings, but the nickname Bunny lives on, and will do until the last of us old boys join him R.I.P.
