Its hard to believe it is now 67 years on the 29th febuary 1945 when I left goldings, as Mr Mills van had broken down me and a lad by the name of McDonald were given the fare by Mr Maslin and told to make our own way to Stepney to be briefed on our time at goldings by Mr MacAndrew who was Chairman of The Excutive Committee,
then we went to barkinside to be fitted out with our clothes and working gear, after which we spent two nights at woodford we didn't get much sleep for the v2 rocket explosions as they were dropping all over London. I was glad when I was taken to my place of employment and lodgings in Ware Hertfordshire.
Sorry to say I never saw or heard about McDonald again from that day to this, his trade was bootmaker.

I may be wrong, but I think the reference to "Dickie Boys" goes back to Dr. Barnardo, perhaps a shortening of his first name?
