Had a little story this weekend told to me by Neville Fletcher 1960-65. "At Goldings just past the hatch were we used to get our pocket money was the Prefects Room! Walking past one day a Prefect shouted to me,Fletcher can you play Chess? (I was only a Junior)no but I can play draughts? (If you got in their bad books they gave you chores!) That will do! get in here and I'll give you a game! Well I beat him! at that he threw the board and draughts up in the air and made me scrub the passageway down to the Kitchen, so for my first few years after that I used skirt round the outside of the building to avoid The Prefects Room!"

Bill,as far as I can make out "dickies boys" was the reference to Kingston home which was ran by the master who's first name was Richard...hence dickies boys! and a great deal of them came to Goldings.Like the rest of our strange language it was probably adopted by us,Grog,Topper,Trashy,Diggy Eye to name a few, they changed and modified down the years but they forever were "our slang" On the site go to Sports and Leisure,to the index at the bottom "Was it English" for further well used words at Goldings
