This one is a long shot, but yesterday I had a lady come on trying to trace her father Alfred Keen nicknamed "Buster" who was at Goldings, but captured in the war by the Japanese,sent to a war camp were he died.She has a letter from Mr Wheatley of condolence for such a tragic loss,but assures me he was there under Mr Macdonald the Governor but is unable to tell his years spent at Goldings, hence the phone call.I have sifted through all the Goldonians I have but to no avail,but I would imagine at the time censorship would not allow them to print his passing in the Goldonian at the time or perhaps the information only came to light with the Japanese surrender,so as Mr Wheatley came to Goldings in April 1945 he would probaly have the task of sending the school's condolence on being given the information, as she has just found the letter..it's a long shot I know but it would be so nice if we could help.I have suggested she contact's Barnardo's if we can't help...but who knows! I will follow this story with interest.
