Hello David, so nice to hear from you, I also remember you, and yes Pop Steele is still with us and is 84 and will once again be at the re-union on the 8th October in Hertford, no other Staff attend as the other one was Bob Newton but he has since passed away a few years back now. A little bit of information about your time at Goldings, which I have got from the Goldonian of your period which should bring back a few memories for you. You came in from Birkdale branch home in the winter of 1962 into Pelham with George Pfaff, Steven Howard, Joe Law (who is at this years reunion) John Murphy, Billy Campbell (who now lives in Ireland) Raymond Mann, Barry West, Peter Law, Barry Brook, John Brooke, Adrian Mitchell, and Christopher Florence. Your House Captain was Eddie Budd. On the site under Houses there is a photo of Pelham at your Christmas house party, year I’m not sure but it was in your time. At the reunion we have a few 60’s boys you may recall, the Hills, Sammy, Billy and Tommy, all gone bald now!! Joe Law, Jimmy Street, Bobby MacNamara, but a few have left us. You came in the August of 1962 and left in May 65 (I left in the April of the same year) I always thought you were a Painter and Decorator but you are listed as being a Carpenter, that’s how good my memory is!! You were very sporty like as your records in the Goldonian reflex. You were given your colours for Football and Swimming. Kevin Law followed you as House Captain after you left. Your Group Leaders were G. Carr, K. Law, S. Howard, and Ray Merrifield who lives in Thailand. You was the Goalkeeper for the team that played the Staff in the Goldonian Summer 1965 (If you want a copy of the team I will send it to you)

I left the Building Trade in the late 60’s to later start my Company selling and Repairing Welding Machines and employed all my children and brother and son-in-law (I have 3 girls and a boy who is my youngest at 26 and 5 grand children. I am now retired but keeping very busy with jobs I have been allocated by my kids!! Blame Goldings for teaching me a trade L.O.L. And they found out!! Do you remember when “Pinhead” closed the Friday dance when Kennedy was shot! The PEE GREEN Swimming Pool, Dogs Alley after Gym and Bob Newton telling us to knock his finger and thumb off our noses!! The Film Show down the Gym on Thursday, Pongo? Jack Cooper the Chef (no food standards then!!) You won a prize for Physical Training, Senior Painting and Decorating, and the Mary Rowland’s Memorial Prize in the Goldonian Winter 1964. Keep in touch David and if you want to talk on the phone my mobile number is 07570745965, all the best Dave Blower, Somerset 1962-65 (The best House)

Hi Dave, My name is Dave Langler and I was at Goldings the same time as yourself, if I remember rightly I think you were in Somerset house I was in Pelham house. It is some time since I was on this web site as I wasn’t very good on the old computer. It was good to see so many names that I remember. I can honestly say That my days at Goldings were realy happy days. I think you trained as a joiner, trained as a painter & decorator. When I left in 1963 I worked as an apprentice painter for 12 months then I got a job as an apprentice with the North west Gas Board. I set up my own business as a central Heating Engineer in 1979. I now have my son in the business with me. Is Pop steel still alive as if he is he must be getting on abit, he was a great man. I would realy like to come to an old boy’s reunion if they will be having one in the future Best regards Dave Langler
