David Blower The Goldings Memorial Cup was donated by former pupils and staff of William Baker Technical School, a Dr Barnardo Home from 1922-67. The mansion we lived in was called ““Goldings”” which was situated just outside Hertford in the village of Waterford. The aim of the school was to teach a trade to the boys which would enable... them a good start in life, when it came for them to leave ““Goldings”” Throughout the schools life, sport played a major part of our lives, and many local sportsmen from those times must surely remember Goldings for our sporting achievements. The Goldings Memorial Cup is played for each year, this years event is on the 27th April 7 pm kick off. All are welcome to join myself and accompanied by other old boys for a very enjoyable evening of football
Above are just three of the notifications that were posted on Face Book. It was after the site going down that I hadthe thought of putting a page on Face Book to enable communication to all Goldings Old Boys that are registered there.
So why were they posted on Face Book, if not to enhance communication?

Why are any of us on Face Book? Why are we connecting with Goldings Old Boys on Face Book?
Since I started looking through Face Book and the Old Boys on there, at least 13 have now made friends with other Goldings Lads. Hopefully, this will encourage communication between them, and, ultimately the Web Site and the Reunions.
Is that harmful? Is that detrimental to, either the Web Site, or the Reunion?
I think not.
However, if the feeling from Goldings Old Boys is that this attempt is detrimental to the enhancement of communication, then it is only one click away to deletion.
But, I thought, at the very least, Old Boys might just have looked in and seen the potential benefits that such a link may produce.

It would seem that my attempt to encourage more participation in this web site has attracted condemnation, in my opinion, without consideration to the whys and wherefors of me doing so.
I will try and explain.
My intention is not to distract from this site, quite the reverse, in fact.
After looking through those members of Face Book that are Goldings Old Boys, I realised that there are some that are not in contact with each other and the site. Therefore, had those that condemn my attempt to encourage participation read the post on the meeting place, they may well have understood that it was, hopefully to encourage more communication.
I have never done anything that could cause harm to this site nor the reunions, and the implication that my recent attempt was to do so is nothing short of an insult.
Woody, a tad p***** off at present.

Peter Drummond is right, we have a good meeting place. Why two?, I will use only this place to say my thought`s and to send any message to all my Goldings friends. I send my personal thanks to Dave Blower both for the site and all the work for the reunion`s that go unnoticed by many of us. My regards to all your family Dave. Thanks also to Drummond for bringing this to our attention, I have not seen face book so would not have used it anyway.
What`s that about Ossie cricket Mr Robertson, I didn`t know they knew how to play the great game? Hope the weather has settled down over there Bob so you can get your mower out again, keep in touch.
