On Saturday 17th March, I again had the pleasure of attending a performance of "The Likes Of Us",a musical writen by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice which tells the story of Dr Thomas Barnardo. I was involved in the collection for Barnardo's at the end of the show, which was staged by the Long Eaton Operatic Society and was staged at Trent College, Long Eaton Notts. Trent College may ring a bell with those who were at Goldings in the 1940s & 50s. as it was where the Rev Sidney Corbett went after leaving Golding's around 1957. Rev Corbett joined the staff at Goldings in 1947 and was there during my early days at Goldings. Although I had little to do with him, I seem to recall that he had something to do with the Wimbledon ball boy and was known as the iron fisted parson. I'm sure someone will recall memories of him. I understand that he died in 1989

When I was at Goldings I saved Peter from the cane.He was down Hertford, out of bounds when I saw him digging out the "cats eyes" with his pen knife. I said "what you doing Pete" He said "collecting diamonds!" "But they are only glass!" He replied "no they are not,I've been told this is a Jewel Carriageway!!!

I'm afraid our police have no sense of humour.I was stopped at midnight and asked were I was going. I said I was going to listen to a lecture on the affects of alcohol on the human body. The police man says "Who going to give a lecture at this time of night?" I said "The Wife!"
