The word "Grogg" a common word used at Goldings which referred to tea or in earlier days any liquid, is a Royal Navy word from the early part of the 19th century. The sailors who were based in the West Indies were allowed a half pint of Rum a day,but Earnest Vernon who was sent out there by the Navy to improve the standard of it's sailors made them mix water with the rum to stop them getting so drunk, and he wore a coat called a "Groggan" so there after the sailors called it "grogg" So was this word introduced to Goldings from Watts Naval School?
