Dear Dave
I would love to hear more about ongoing Goldings/print school events and have always been interested in the history of Bernardo's.
My surname was 'Stewart' when I worked there and although not a qualified social worker I loved the boys and have happy and funny memories of most of them.
It was so strange to see 'The Verney' glamourised and sanitised when I visited the area this week - I think it rather suited its faded elegance in the days we were there. I used to have picnics with my little boy under the willow trees by the river.
How do I send photos etc? I couldn't reply to the email received

Many thanks Chris for input to the site, very interesting as many of the Verney Old Boys continue to attend the re-union. I would love to have copies what photos you have for the site. Was you there when Mr Tordoff a print master was in charge of the Verney, any stories of your time there would be most welcome, regards from the Old Boys.

Hi I was the last matron at The Verney we left with the boys in 1981 and moved to the hostel on Lord Street, Hoddesdon. The Verney closed shortly after. I have photos of some of the boys and many memories and stories. We went to Waterford today - Waterford House (which I think was always its correct name) is very posh now! Not like the days when I lived in the attic!
