My reply to Megan
Hello Megan
I will get in touch with former Ball Boys to see if they are willing to take part. I think we may struggle to find memorabilia but we will see. I will be in touch again soon

If any Old Boy is interested in this project please contact me so I can pass details on to Meagan

Megan Parker Making connections
Dear Dave,

I hope you are well.
You email address has been passed along to me by my colleague Sonya.
I have received an email from a curator at the Museum of London. They are interested in collecting items related to the Ball Boys at Wimbledon for their museum collections. Sonya mentioned you are in touch with some of the Old Boys who took part in Wimbledon and might be able to get in touch with them to see if they would be interested in participating.
Below is part of the email I received from the Museum:

‘Please note that this is a collecting project meaning that we are looking to add objects to our collection to represent this story. This is all with the aim of filling in a gap around sport in our collection and to make sure that we represent London’s sporting heritage. There are no immediate plans for an exhibition on this topic although what we collect can then be used in future related exhibitions or in our new museum.
Ideally we would love to be put in touch with some of the former Barnardo’s ball boys so that we can meet, possibly at our museum or at Wimbledon, and discuss how their stories can be added to our collections possibly via personal items. Would you be able to connect us to some of the former ball boys?’

Please let me know if you think you might be able to help or if you have any further questions.
Very best wishes,
Megan

Old story from an Old Boy
Goldings in bloom, end of an era.
HOW many times have we heard that old saying: 'Never visit the old places, you will be disappointed.' Well, we still do it. After 50 odd years, Goldings revisited was sad for me. Gone are the 200 boys, masters and staff. They were the very breath of the place. As I approached it from the drive, my thoughts ran back to the days I walked from Goldings to Hertford and back with hardly a Saturday missed. Then as I walked over the bridge, with its balusters and view through the trees, the old building beckoned me, knowing its last days had arrived. Having reached the building, I found the heart of the house in decay. Of course it will regenerate again, but never the same as it was in the years I spent there when it was in bloom and we felt as one.
