Yes my memory came back I remember
we used to go the fair ground that used to come to Hertford, this was in 1947. Kit Carson and I agreed to box each other in the ring at the fair whioh they used to do in them days.If you one you can take the hat around and people used to put money in for you.Kit was a very good boxer, he promised me he would not beat me to much, but I am afraid he did not keep his promise as he wanted to take the hat round, he got about £6 pounds,We booked the fight, but there was no slots till 8-30 pm to fight, so it meant us getting in late, so the fair ground manager gave us a letter to say what a good performance.Mr Wheatley {Pin head} read it out the next morning after morning prayers. He was so pleased he thanked, us so we never got punished for being late in.

Unfortunately David Green passed away about 6 or 7 years ago having suffered badly from diabetes. The Guild Messenger did a write up about him a few years ago, stating that he was the last boy to be migrated by Dr Barnardo’s (1958) to Canada. As you may recall Sammy, he was a very good cricketer. Apparently, in Canada he played mostly tennis. Generally speaking, there are hardly any cricket clubs in Canada.
And yes! Len (I’m pretty sure I remember you) and Sammy, Kit Carson was an outstanding boxer. We were both in the same weight (perhaps 8 stone) and he beat me at least four times (army cadets and house).
Having beaten me in the Army cadets in 1949, he went on to reach the finals and was to have fought in the Royal Albert Hall. I recall they served him a big steak (protein) to keep his weight down. We had only ever seen a steak in the movies.
Unfortunately, a couple of days before he was to have gone to the Albert Hall, he came down with a bad case of the flu and therefore he couldn’t go. Joe Patch and Skip Culver did their best to be able to have me replace him, but unfortunately ‘those in charge and able to make such a decision’ wouldn’t agree, and so his opponent had a ‘no show’ win. I feel pretty sure David W. will remember that, it was a really big event.
