Hello Dave. It’s quite surprising that there are not more known old Goldings' boys here in Canada. I and those who were at Goldings in the 1940’s would remember Edward (Kit) Carson, who went to Montreal from Goldings with his brother. Pinhead sent me Carson’s address in Montreal but I was too tardy, and didn’t try to get in touch with him until it was too late, and he and his mother and brother had moved. Finding anyone in Canada, (particularly so, before the internet), was quite daunting, Canada being so large in area. The other chap from Goldings was David Green. Apparently he was the last Dr Barnardo boy to migrate (in 1948) to Canada. My wife Donna and I visited him a couple of times before he died about six years ago. He only lived about 250 miles from us. Certainly Scoffer and Sammy will remember him as well as Kit Carson. Perhaps you may find it interesting to realise that Canada comprises of 10 provinces. I live in Ontario, which is just one of our 10 provinces. Can you imagine - that the entire British Isles land mass can fit into Ontario 4 times? Even then, Ontario isn’t the largest province. As well as the 10 provinces, there are 3 Territories which are even bigger than any of the 10 provinces. Mind boggling isn’t it! Another interesting point is that two of my sons and their families live in British Columbia, Canada. As it is, you Dave being in England, are closer to me in distance, than they are here in Canada. Just to give you an idea as to the scale of this country. The current population of Canada is 35 million whereas the entire population of the British Isles is 68 million. Unfortunately Canada didn’t qualify for the World Cup and we are all (British that is) disappointed with England’s outcome. Maybe next time! I hope you all found this piece of trivia interesting. Reg

Reg,the only one I know to in Canada is Alan Sibbons (Goldings 1963-65)his e-mail address I will try to forward to you but I know he has had marital problems and has moved address twice, but I will try to contact him. Fred Wyatt,I have looked through the Goldonians for his name from 1938 to 1950,but no luck, but in those years they didn't have a boys coming in or boys leaving in the Goldonian as they later introduced in later years, could have been censorship! but I'm not sure but I have spoken to Alan Dearman for him to check with Dr Barnardo's records, failing that the only one who may remember him from those years is John Horn (who is not very well)but I will try him.Have you any decent footballers who are prepared to lower their standards and play for England?

Dave, are there any Goldings old boys here in Ontario, Canada or better still near Toronto, that you are aware of? If so, and any of them read the Goldings Guest Book, I would like to hear from them. Incidentally, regarding Fred Wyatt, the chap that Alan D. mentioned in his recent entry. So as to not be confused, Fred couldn't have been in Bayfordbury in 1937, Bayfordbury wasn't a Dr Barnardo Home until 1943 and was closed in 1946 when we all moved to Churchill House in Eastbourne. Unfortunately, I can't remember Fred. Pity there isn't more to go on. Regards, Reg
