"THE LIKES OF US" is a book by Leslie Thomas & a Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. It tells the story of Dr Thomas Barnardo. I went to see this musical at Loughborough last Saturday and it was most enjoyable. It is being performed around the country including Sunderland, Birmingham & Spalding in the near future. The London "Open House" Event takes place on 19th & 20th September 2009. This event is the opening of 700 public buildings in and around london and entry is free. The List includes The Village Home at Barkingside from 10am - 5pm. Cambridge cottage and the church will will be open and there will be conducted tours of the village. I will be there all day on Saturday with Margaret. For more information, Google open House.
Dave, I submitted your letter to a number of local papers including my own, Nottingham Evening Post and they are doing a feature. I also forwarded it to BBC Radio Leicester and BBCs 'The One Show'.

Bobby Mac and Roma send their apologies for not attending the reunion, as you all may know he is working in the Bahammas,and unlike Dave Blower,hasn't learnt yet to walk on "water"....no wry comments from you Drummond because you can't still walk up the bar to pay!

Many thanks Bob,reading through the Goldonians it appears you were heavily involved with the drama group at Goldings and the stage productions, and as Mrs Newton will be at the reunion you most probaly have a lot of memories to exchange! See you soon, my regards to your family Dave.

Down at the School Block

Three Goldings lads were at random asked by Mr Rowlands to take part in a simple test.To protect their embarrasment we won't use their real name's.
Brian,Peter,and Tony were called into the classroom one at a time.
"Tony whats 3x3?"
"274 Sir!"
"Could you send Brian in"
"Brian whats 3x3?"
"Tuesday Sir"
Frustrated and full of despair he motioned to Brian
"Could you send in the last lad"
"Peter(long and painful sigh)what is 3x3"?
Peter without hesitation remarked "Thats easy Sir...9"
At last, Mr Rowlands was jubilant, that someone had finally gave him the correct answer.
"Peter,can you tell me and the rest of the class how you arrived at the answer"?
Peter frowned, tapped the side of his temple and replied.
"Well sir I took Tuesday away from 274!"
