I have just had one of my shortest, but enjoyable visits to Hertford. On Suday, Helen Simpson and myself went to spend the night at Brenda Hunt's home as we were attending a National Council meeting at Barkingside the following morning. We arrived at around 4.45pm and was made very welcome by Brenda who proceeded to provide us with a most enjoyable 3 course meal. After dinner we sat in front of a welcoming log fire and spent a couple of hours looking through photo's and talking about John and his time at Goldings. Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing John, don't need to be told about what kind of person he was and the hard work he put in to the Old boys association, along his involvement with our now well established reunions. Sadly the evening came to an end at around 9.30pm when we learned that the meeting had been cancelled due to the forthcomming bad weather, so we decided to return home in anticipation of bad weather and heavy traffic on Monday morning. We faced snow blizards most of the way home and I was pleased when I arrived home at 1am this morning and even more pleased when I saw the weather in the South East on the TV this evening.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANY MORE.
George Phillips of Meridian , Mississippi , was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in his shed stealing things.
He phoned the police and the dispatcher asked, 'Is someone in your house?'
He said 'No. Not in my house, outside in my shed.'
The dispatcher said. 'All patrols are busy. Just lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available.' George said, 'Okay,' and he hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he dialled the police again. George said. 'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them,' and he hung up.
Within 4 minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George, 'I thought you said that you'd shot them!'
George replied, 'I thought you said nobody was available!' (True Story)
