Heartbroken to hear that Pop has passed away. He loved every one of the lads that went to Golding’s. He was a true gentleman in every way. So glad we saw Pop in June at his home we would try and go every time we went to Durham to visit my family. R.I P. Love you always love Bluenose and Dave xxx 🤍🤍🤍🤍

It was sad news we received today of the passing away of Cliff (POP)Steele who slipped from us Sunday gone after a short illness. A most respected member of the Goldings Staff who came to us from the North East like a lot of the lads did. He told me when he came for the interview for Goldings (the Headmaster) Mr Wheatley asked me if I could play Cricket, and I told him I played Cricket to a good standard in the North East, so that day I played for Goldings, and I think it sealed my interview.
How lucky we were?
He came in 1956 and remained till the end 1967
A book of condolences will be available at our re-union, as he was a strong supporter of the event, and ever present till recently due to ill health.
Pop probably was the last member of staff remaining
