THIS INFORMATION WAS GIVEN TO ME BY PETER AT THE LAST RE-UNION,IN STRICTEST CONFIDENCE?SO HEAR I AM LICKING UP TO YOU LOT FOR XMAS.
ABOUT THREE YEARS BEFORE HE CONNED HIS WAY INTO GOLDINGS,HIS DAD WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT THE STANDARD OF HIS MATHS,SO HE SENT HIM TO A STRICT CHURCH SCHOOL (his dad knew that he wouldn't buckle down when he got to Goldings)WELL AFTER A FEW MONTHS HE FINISHED UP TOP OF THE CLASS IN MATHS,AND HIS DAD WAS NOW VERY PROUD OF HIM.
"Son how did you improve to such a standard"
"Well you see dad when I walked into the classroom and saw that picture behind the teacher of a guy nailed to a plus sign on the wall,I knew this church school mean't buisness???

Seasonal Greetings to all Dr. Barnardo’s boys and girls and families, from me and mine.
Christmas here will be as mad and noisy as it ever is, with 12 grandchildren descending at various times over the week, it will be great fun and frolics.
I hope that all you out there will enjoy a peaceful relaxing enjoyable Christmas, and that it will be exactly what you want it to be.
If your Christmas is one tenth as much fun as mine is going to be, then I know that you will have a good one.
My very best wishes for a successful and healthy New Year are also sent along with this message.

I well remember Jack and the porridge does anyone remember the Spud machine by the dinning room hatch and its pool of dirty water that kitchen boys took great delight in sliding the trays of fried eggs through to the dinning room even after over 50years I still can not face fried eggs!!.time to go for a swim should help to cool us down bobr

Good Evening to everyone. I have just been watching Oliver Twist and how it reminded me of those wonderful days at Goldings!! Frank Offord as Mr Bumble, supervising the dinning hall and that lovely porridge(pongy to most of us) no maggots,just Jack Coopers fag ends. But seriously, they were great days and with Christmas and the cold winter upon us, memories come flooding back as Dave reminds us of the draughts and cold dorms and that slide which I remember well. I may have had leg Irons and a surgical boot, but I learned to slide on that slope and spent many happy hours finishing on my back side and crashing into the old rec, only to get back on my feet, walk back to the top and do it all again. On the subject of the rec, how many remember when it was used as the dining room when the regular dining room was being refurbished? How on earth did we manage to eat in there during that cold winter? it was cold, wet, draughty and smelled of mould. Oh what wonderful memories. I'm wondering if I can still slide as I'm off to The Austrian Tyrol on Saturday to spend Christmas and may well get the chance.
Well, it just remains for me to wish all old boys and Staff a very, very happy Christmas and prosprous new year for 2008 (Goldings Sept. 55 to Jan 59)
