CAN YOU REMEMBER WHERE YOU WERE and what you were doing on February 6th 1957? Many of us I'm sure can. I was at Golding and just 14 years old. with no papers, Radio or TV & with the school being so sports orientated, can you iagine how we felt when rumours stated circulating that Manchester United players had been killed in a plane crash. We all now know about the Munich air disaster which marks it's 50th anniversary this week. It was cinema night but all the talk was about Munich. Even at 14 I was a keen football fan and had seen the likes of Roger Byrne, Duncan Edwards, & Tommy Taylor, who were among those killed, play for the "Busby Babes" Those of us who follow footbal will no doubt recall other football disasters in our life times and these include: "The colorfull 11" killed in a plane crash in 1989 - 18 members of the Zambia National team killed in a plane crash in 1993. Also: Ibrox Park in 1971 - Heysal 1985 and of Course, Hillsborough in 1989 which I witnessed first hand.
Maybe as we remember Munich this week, we should remember all losses from what we call "The beutiful Game.
